Meet Your Canidate
Cydney Walker, a Dallas native, was raised in South Dallas and attended DISD schools. She chose to start her family in the area to maintain her roots while also becoming actively involved in the community. In 2016, she became a precinct chair and began hosting Coffee and Politics 101. Her community involvement was inspired by a desire to preserve the history of South Dallas by documenting remaining shotgun houses in the Prayah area and learning about its origins, including the migration of Jewish Merchants from Old City Park to South Dallas. A key message from her neighbors was the importance of elected officials engaging with the public beyond election periods, which led to hosting a candidate forum for the March Primary run-off election in 2016. Educating the electorate about the roles of elected officials and their offices was seen as crucial for a more informed citizenry. Coffee and Politics 101 was developed to provide civic education and raise awareness about important issues that residents needed to understand to effectively engage with their representatives. This initiative expanded to include appearances as a guest commentator on Inside Texas Politics, where Cydney focused on local issues requiring greater public awareness. Her ongoing dedication to the community has earned her respect in Dallas as someone who advocates for everyday individuals and comprehends how government functions for the benefit of the people.
